He woke to the sound of his phone ringing. Groggily he answered.
“Mr. Harden? I’m a reporter with Channel Nine TV. I’d like to—”
Spence hit the Off button. Almost immediately it rang again. This time, Spence checked the Caller ID. The call was from another TV station so he ignored it and turned his phone off.
By then everything came rushing back to him. Jeff’s death. The detectives. The interrogation at the police station. As it did, he realized something. He hadn’t told the detectives about the thefts of Jeff’s books and the file with the house papers.
They have to have something to do with this, but…“Later,” he muttered. “When I can think straight.”
