Chapter 10

“Hello? Felix?” His dad sounded agitated.

“Yeah. What’s going on?”

“Nothing, son. Work stuff. Are you okay?”

“Oh yeah, Dad. Totally fine. Hey, can you send me some money?”

Felix could hear a heavy sigh. “I really can’t. Maybe a little.”

“I know. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.”

“You knew that before you left. Money is tight. If you wanted to go off and do this, you had to save and make it happen on your own. What do you need the money for?”

“Well, thanks anyway. Things are going okay back there?”

“Nice try, Felix. What do you need the money for?”

“I kind of got into some trouble,” Felix said.

“Shit,” his dad said. “What did you do?”

“Why do you assume I did something?”

“Come off it. Those shits you hang out with are always talking you into doing stupid crap.”

“It wasn’t anything bad. I just crashed this guy’s truck and now I have to either pay him or work off the damages.”

“What were you…” began his father. “No, don’t tell me. Are you okay?”
