Kiva jerked her head suddenly to the side, her ears pivoting, her eyes keen. She glanced at Felix before using his body as a launch pad. By the time he had stood and dusted himself off, she was already leaping over the fence at the bottom of the hill. Felix’s own progress was much slower, but once he had made his own way over the fence using the rickety stile, he saw what had gotten Kiva so excited. Ronan and Molly Redmond were exiting her vehicle which had been parked as near to the house as possible.
“Hey!” Felix smiled broadly. “Welcome back! Is Lorcan with you guys?”
“Aye,” Ronan said with a nod. The young man driving the car opened the back door and was helping Lorcan to his feet while awkwardly maneuvering an oxygen tank attached to Lorcan at the nose with a long, tangly tube.
“Here, let me help.” Felix hurried over, taking the tank and one of Lorcan’s arms. “Y’all right, Lorcan?”
“Fair,” Lorcan said with a weak smile.
