The sky had taken on that warm glow of late afternoon by the time Ronan came in, filthy and laughing. “Man, those boys are alright.”
“Did you get it all done?” Felix asked.
“Sure enough,” Ronan said. “Even got the goats moved in!”
“Well, shit.”
Ronan boomed with laughter. “Well, shit it is. I even got ‘em to agree to me payin’ ‘em back when I can manage.”
Felix wasn’t sure why he was feeling so sad to see Ronan so hopeful. He guessed he felt Ronan had a clear plan for the rest of his life and it obviously didn’t include him. The fact that Felix had made his own plans was irrelevant, at least as far as his emotions went. He wasn’t sure what he expected, but this wasn’t it.
“Thought you were leavin’.”
“It’s kind of a whenever thing.”
“Well, good!” Ronan said with a broad smile. “You got time for a drink? I want to take you out to celebrate.”
