Chapter 35

He nodded and leaned forward slightly, wobbling a little on the chair. Finally, he began praising the man he loved. After all, nobody would ever see the interview. No one important, he thought.

“Russell Lee has always been my idol, my model of inspiration. I was introduced to golf by my parents, who played every weekend at a country clubs in Chicago. My mother adored Ronald Lee’s style, she was literally in love with him.”

A pause.

“Well, maybe don’t write the word ‘love,’ or my father might get mad,” he added, making everybody laugh.

“My parents pushed me to find inspiration in Ronald and, when his son won the Open Championship, I started following him. I had his poster in my room, replacing one of Jack Nicklaus.”

Note—tell Mom to throw it into the trash before I go home.

Everyone in the room was silent, hanging on Reggie’s personal story. His voice warmed up the room.

“My dream has always been to play with Mr. Lee one day. But I had no idea it’d come true in this way.”
