Chapter 40

Dylan walked toward the garage door, then stopped and turned. “Seriously consider moving to Ron’s apartment. It would be safer.”

“I’ll think about it.” Chris followed Dylan into the garage and leaned against the doorjamb as Dylan walked to the driver’s door of their mother’s black Ford Escape. “How’d you get Mom’s car?”

Dylan waved his question away.

“Don’t get Mom’s car impounded. She’ll hurt you.”

Dylan smiled. “This will be over soon.”

Chris nodded, then pushed the button to raise the garage door. Dylan started the engine and then backed out. As Dylan drove away, Chris hit the button again to lower the door.

He thought about the pictures of Nolan and the mystery man as he went back to his desk and then looked at the images again. If that was Skinner taking bribes in the pictures, how was he affecting the case against Dylan and Ron?

The doorbell rang.

“What now?”

Chris closed the laptop, then went to the front door. James’s car sat in the driveway. “Great.”
