Chapter 41

James whispered, “Try to get some sleep.”

Chris tucked his head into James’s neck, closing his eyes as James tightened his hold. It felt good to have James back. Chris could almost forget the danger, but his concerns still lingered. With James having his own doubts about his department, maybe Dylan and Ron were right to not trust the police.

James kissed the top of his head and Chris smiled.

They were safe for the night, but the morning would arrive soon enough and Chris wondered what the day would bring. 20

The next morning, Chris woke as James sat beside him on the bed and kissed his forehead. He blinked several times before his eyes focused on James’s smiling face. He smiled up at him.

“I’ve gotta go,” James said. “I’m late and still have to change.”

“Sorry.”

James lightly kissed him, then left the bedroom.
