“Stop right there!” Miles was torn between running after the bastard and checking on Devin. But the man was fast and soon he disappeared into the trees as Miles hesitated. His priority decided, Miles knelt by Devin. He was clearly unconscious. “God, please let him be all right,” Miles whispered.

Breathless, Sebastian stopped running after he thought he’d put enough distance between himself and any pursuers. He hadn’t dared look back as he ran, hoping that the detective would want to make sure that Devin was all right first before giving chase.
