“Hey, Ian. We’ll be grilling some steaks this evening. I hope that’s okay with you.”
“It sure is. Where’s Tim?”
“Backyard. He’s probably started with the grilling. We’ve got a table and some chairs on the patio. Come on in.”
When the two men had made it to the backyard, they saw Tim had indeed begun to grill their steaks. Ian and Tim greeted each other awkwardly before shaking hands. The three men then talked about the weather and the neighborhood, trying their best to avoid uncomfortable silences while waiting for dinner to be ready. After what felt like hours of pointless chit-chat, they could finally sit down to eat.
“So?” he asked Ian as he gestured at the steak and mixed vegetables. Ian swallowed his vegetables before giving Tim and him two thumbs up.
“Really great.”
“Yeah, Mike always knows how to marinate the meat properly. I couldn’t seem to do the same even though he’d been teaching me for months before I went away for my last assignment.”
