Chapter 14

Tristan stepped up to Rain. “Uh, hey, listen, I hope—”

“Thanks!” Mortified and ashamed, Rain ran up his front stairs, shutting himself into his apartment.

God, what would Tristan think of him now?

For a moment, Tristan stood on the sidewalk, staring at Rain’s front door.

Damn

Maybe he shouldn’t have intervened, but when he’d caught sight of that jerk shaking Rain’s arm, something had propelled him forward, and he’d skipped down those front steps not knowing what he’d do or say. He was glad he’d been cool about it. Rain’s husband was a big guy with biceps the size of his thighs. This guy was a dentist?

Now Tristan was getting a clearer picture of the type of shit Rain was dealing with. Why was it that the good guys usually fell for these domineering types?

Staring at Rain’s door, Tristan debated on what to do. Reason told him to go back to his apartment and give Rain some space, but his gut told him maybe Rain needed someone to talk to right now.
