“You’re so violent,” Rain teased. “Poor little pepper. You’ve ruined him for weeks now.”
Andre shot him a wide-eyed look and stared down at the devastated pepper in his gloved hand.
“Well, at least you had the decency to use protection.” Rain winked and went back to work. But his phone vibrated inside his jeans and he wondered if something had happened to Pip at school. No one ever called him anymore. “Let me take this call,” he said, slipping his gloves off before digging his phone out. He checked the caller ID, but didn’t know this number. “Hello?” he answered and walked away.
“Mr. Rainar Michaud?”
“Yes…” Rain put his hand over the phone. “It’s the government or a survey,” he told Andre. “Yes, speaking.”
“Tell ‘em you’re busy stuffing peppers.” Andre laughed.
