“Wow.” Tristan laughed softly, the emotion rising inside him.

“I think you have your answer.” Faustina reached over the bannister and squeezed his arm. “Yeah?”

“Yeah,” he whispered, all his apprehension clearing out. “Yes,” he said more strongly and smiled. “Definitely. Absolutely.”

“Let him know…”

“Thank you, Faustina.” He opened the door and looked back at her. “For everything. You’re really an amazing woman. I’m glad to know you.”

“Can I keep the rum?”

Tristan laughed, handed her the bottle, and then stepped inside. “See you in the morning for Rain’s lemon and poppy cake.”

He shut the door, took his boots and coat off, and made his way to Rain’s bedroom. Theirbedroom. Coming up on the open door, he saw that the light was on and Rain was awake.

Tristan hesitated a little, unsure of what to expect, and walked into the room.

Rain was sitting up in bed, staring at the dark window.
