Chapter 78

“No…their Cadillacs. I think I’m gonna be the Cadillac man.” He blew out a breath. “Mom, it is what it is.”

“I know, darling, I know. Do you need money?”

“No, I have everything I need.” He looked at the door again, his heart fluttering. “I called because I wanted to tell you that I met someone, Mom. And I’m so in love with him. I never thought it could happen to me.”

“Dennis!” she screamed. “Come over here! Tristan is in love!”

He laughed, elated. “Mom? Hello?”

But his mother was talking loudly and rapidly to his father. “What’s his name?” she asked, coming back on the line, “What does he do? Where did you meet him?”

Tristan explained everything to his parents, telling them of the day he’d met Rain and Philip, of their happiness, and of Rain’s unique talent as a puppeteer. He was interrupted by his mother’s many questions, but managed to get the whole of their story out, and then paused, waiting for their final reaction.
