“Yeah,” Mike replied. “There was a story on the street that Stryker had been dealt with for something he did. It didn’t connect with Brody’s killing, however.”

“Damn. Even in death, Irwin decided to lie to me, the bastard,” Brody growled. “If I get my hands on him…”

“Too late for that,” Sage pointed out. Then he told Mike why he’d said that

“I wish I could help you, Brody,” Mike said.

“After five years? It’s too late.” Brody sighed. “Maybe you can help Jon, though. He’s still here, too, even with Irwin dead.”

“Isn’t that because we haven’t provedthat Irwin killed him?” Mike asked once Sage had repeated Brody’s words to him. “Hell, when it comes down to it, maybe I should take another look at Stryker. It could be that Irwin wasn’t lying.” He turned to Sage. “Help me sit up, would you.”
