He unlocked the door, unset the security alarm, turned and told Sage, “Go home, or back to work, or whatever.”

Stung by Mike’s…orders, Sage replied angrily, “Don’t tell me what to do. You don’t have that right yet. Maybe you never will.”

Mikes looked at him in dismay. He sucked in a breath. “Sorry.” He studied Sage. “Okay, I know I’m doped up to the gills, but…” He paused. “Are you trying to tell me something? Or trying to avoid telling me?”

“No,” Sage replied, turning sharply to go home. He heard Mike unlock the door and open it.

Mike grabbed his arm, hissing in pain as he did. “Come inside and talk to me.”

Tightly, Sage replied, “You’re in no shape to do anything but get to bed.”

“Please. I…I need your help. I don’t think I can make it upstairs on my own.”
