Chapter 49

“No time like the present,” I said, after Sage told us to come by their place around nine tonight. “But not here. He probably wants to get back to whatever he was doing.”

“Coming up with landscaping for a client’s yard,” Sage told me. He pointed to the wall behind where we were sitting. I got up to look at the drawings and photos.

“Wow, if I had a house, I’d hire you,” I said after looking at them. I sighed. “Not going to happen, though. Hell, where will I live? Not where I used to, for damned sure. I don’t think I could stand being there and David not knowing I was.”

Brody looked at Jon, who nodded. Then he said to me, “We might know a place. You’d have to give the room a good cleaning.”

“Like I can do that,” I grumbled. “I can’t even pick up a pencil.”
