“If we did, don’t you think we’d have let you know?” Kegan replied tightly. “Why the hell are you calling this late, anyway?”
“Calm down. Don’t take your frustrations out on me.”
“Yeah. Sorry.” Kegan filled him in on what little they’d found out, and their plans for the morning.
“Good. I’ve spoken with the others on Ash’s list. There’s been no sign of him. Not that he’s going to show his face until he tries to eliminate them, or the two of you. Be damned careful.”
“We will be. Now, unless there’s another reason for your call, I’m going to bed.”
“There isn’t. Good night.”
Kegan hung up then looked at Gage, who was frowning. “What?” he asked.
“Why is he up at, well for him, almost four in the morning?”
“Maybe he couldn’t sleep for worrying about us,” Kegan replied sarcastically.
“Right.” Gage shut down the laptop. “Let’s get some sleep then go pretend we’re looking for Ash and hope he’s still in the city and watching.” 4
