Chapter 13

“More restaurants, fast food joints, tourist shops, more tourist shops, clothing stores.” Gage ticked them off on his fingers as they walked.

“And a nice park,” Kegan added, gesturing toward it. “With, umm, some strange stone…sculpture?”

“It was a fountain,” a woman who had obviously overheard him said. “Way back when.”

“If you say so.” Kegan glanced at it again before he and Gage moved on. They took their time, trying to enjoy the nice evening. But after a while they gave up as their tension ramped up, and returned to the motel.

“Are we going to stick around for a couple more days?” Gage asked, flopping down on his bed then turning on the TV.

“Do you think it’ll be worth it?”

“I’m in two minds. We haven’t seen anything that says Ash is still in the city. On the other hand, we wouldn’t. He’s damned good at what he does. He might be waiting until we drop our guard before attacking.”
