Chapter 12

“We brought wine,” said Katie, holding up a bag that had to contain at least three bottles.

“And chocolate,” said Elena. “We figured you could use it!”

Kiko took the bags from them as they took off their coats and boots. He brought the bags into the kitchen and opened them to find strawberry and raspberry truffles, lemon white chocolate petit fours, and two bottles of white, one of red.

“Drink up,” said Dom, entering with Kiko’s half-full beer. “So we can forget we saw a dead woman. Unless you don’t do wine after beer.”

Kiko took his beer and had a drink while Dom disposed of his empty bottle and got out the wine glasses.

“This almost makes me feel guilty Chad is stuck completely sober with his mother tonight,” said Kiko. Katie entered and laughed at that, Elena following.

“You’re advocating underage drinking?” asked Dom, passing the corkscrew to Katie when she held out her hand. Elena raided the cupboard for plates to set the chocolates on. “You?”
