“So,” said Matteo. “Tell me about yourselves and what you’re looking for.”
“We’re not here about a house,” said Dom, and the expression on Matteo’s face turned suspicious.
“We’re here with some bad news,” said Kiko.
“Which is?” asked Matteo, voice cold, posture stiff. Dom glanced at Kiko, wanting to give the news but knowing Kiko would be pissed if he handled it wrong. He forced himself to let Kiko say it instead.
“Sarah Mulligan is dead,” said Kiko. “She’s been murdered.”
Matteo frowned, the suspicious expression on his face turning angry. Dom did not like that look.
“Who are you?” asked Matteo.
“We’re from Mount Angus,” said Dom before Kiko could answer. “We found her body.”
“He wants to know why we’re here, Dom,” said Kiko. “Our police chief asked us to look into the events thirty years ago, the murder, the robberies, the disappearance of a child. It might be tied to Sarah’s murder.”
“You’re the police?” Matteo looked far too tense for Dom’s liking.
