Chapter 59

“I heard about Clark,” said Katie, nodding. “Is he all right?”

Dom grinned. Kiko kept his face impassive, but secretly he felt Dom’s smugness. Clark pushed people a bit too much; maybe in the future he’d consider his words before speaking.

“Yes, just shaken up,” said Kiko. “Although he’d never admit it.”

“He went home without even questioning us,” said Dom.

“He probably has all he needs for a story,” said Katie. “And you really found all that jewelry by accident?”

“By Chad’s clumsiness,” said Dom as Chad walked up, plate of food in hand. He made a face.

“More like you distracted me,” he said. “So, boss, if it’s all still sitting here, can I have an egg or two?”

Kiko shot Chad a hard look and he sat with his food, shrugging. When they’d gotten back inside he and Dom had packed up the rest of it; the boxes now sat on the second table. Gordon hadn’t been by yet to pick them up, but then, he was probably busy getting Joe all checked in down at the jail. Katie shook her head.
