“Van, I’m Evi, Hunter’s mother. It’s so nice to meet you, sweetie. Come sit down next to me.” Evi grabbed his hand and brought him over to sit between her and Matty. “Hunter’s just fine. He just got out of surgery and is going to make a full recovery. No need to worry.” Evi patted his hand.


He was both shocked and elated to have such a warm welcome from Hunter’s family.


“So, dear, tell me all about you and Hunter. Where did you meet?”


A loud noise came from the back of Matty’s throat, then he grinned like a loon. Van wanted to smack him.


“It’s okay, Van, you can tell Ma you met him at a bar. Hunter’s a big boy.” Ethan snickered, along with Matty. Ethan winked at Van.


Van’s face was completely red by the time he finished the abbreviated story of how he and Hunter had met. Matty batted his eyes at him, and Ethan belly-laughed again.
