Two shots brought down the pilot and the co-pilot, and the rest of the ground crew scattered. None were armed at this point, so Jake let them go.


Ethan and Rowdy were evenly matched in their fight until a click sounded and time stood still. Rowdy’s gun aimed at Ethan’s temple, finger on the ready. Hunter’s brain took complete control. He shot twice, hitting Rowdy in the neck and arm, dislodging the gun and Ethan from his grasp.


Jake ripped the duct tape from Van’s mouth as gently as he could and started to untie his legs and arms when Van started to struggle. He nodded for Jake to continue getting him loose. He looked around in a panic, searching for Hunter. What he saw made his heart stop. Hunter was on his knees with blood on his face, chest, and hands. Then Van started to struggle in earnest, wanting nothing more than to be with Hunter.
