“Why didn’t you call for me?”
“I did. More than once.”
She blushed lightly. “Oh.”
“Must have been reading something very interesting.”
“Always. So what brings you around? I thought for sure you would be out in the snow.”
“I was. Turns out I had to teach Cinder how to properly enjoy this beautiful weather.” He shook his head. “Can you imagine?”
“Easily.” By now they had reached her desk, the precious records in her arms joined the already precarious stack on the corner. Periodically Daisy went through their history to keep track of potential troubles or as she called them, warnings. In short order she spied the gaily printed box, running a finger along the cover. “What is this?”
“Cookies and cupcakes, baked by yours truly.”
“Did, did you make my favorite?”
Io’s grin rivaled that of the Cheshire cat. “A whole batch of M&M cookies just for you.”
“Thank you,” she sank into the chair.
