Roxie laughed. “No, stupid. If it was Vic, I’d keep him up here with me and make you come up to see him. Really, I don’t know what he sees in you.”
Annoyed, Matt asked, “Who are you talking about, then?”
“The guy from yesterday,” Roxie reminded him. “The one who seems to think he’s a match for your finacé.” She over-emphasized the word, drawing it out, fee-ahhhnce-say. As if making fun of it.
Well, if it makes her feel better about Vic not being into her,Matt thought, whatever.Out loud, he said, “Why’d you send him back here? I don’t want anything to do with him.”
“He’s a member. I can’t stophim,” Roxie pointed out. “He wanted to swim, what can I say? He just asked me if you were there, that’s all. So I thought I’d give you a head’s up. He’s on his way.”
From where he sat, Matt heard the faint creak of hinges as the gym door opened from the hall.Fuck.“No, he’s already here. What am I supposed to do?”
“Tell him to step off,” Roxie said. “You’re already seeing someone.”
