“She…” Kirk paused, tapping his fingers on the table. “Okay. She met the guy somewhere, like a bar. Came on to him, seduced him, and now she’s set it up to blackmail him.”
“Wouldn’t he have to be married to make that work?” Pat asked.
Kirk deflated. “Yeah. Good point.”
“It would make a good idea for a book, though,” Dan said, shooting a look at Tony.
“How many times do I have to tell you? I don’t write mysteries.”
“Five hundred,” Dan replied with a grin.
Tony glanced at Kirk, who was deep in thought, and wondered if his trying to come up with a scenario involving a male-female team of killers was his way of avoiding thinking about what had happened to him earlier, with his mother. If so, Tony was willing to play along. “Not blackmail,” he said. “Let’s go back to the burglary idea.”
Kirk nodded. “They claim to be…what?” He snapped his fingers. “Cops. Detectives. Could they pass for that?” He looked at Tony.
