“You will?” My heart leapt to my throat. “Why?”
“Curiosity?”
I grinned. “As you might recall, the cat didn’t fare too well in that scenario. Try again.”
“I miss you?”
I paused. I started to reply. I paused again. The waters were already choppy enough, after all; I didn’t want to further rock the boat. “I sense something more.”
This time he paused before replying. “Helping mankind is more fun as a team.”
And still I sensed something more. We’ll call it my wolfy sense again. I didn’t object, though, not once gift-horse met mouth. That is to say, I was glad for the help. In fact, I had no other choice. And yeah, I missed him, too—not that I said as much.
