“Um, hi guys,” I said. “What’s up?”


I recognized the senator right off the bat. His goons looked unfamiliar. All I can say is that they looked hulkingly goony. “Lucas,” he said with a nod of his head.


“Senator Randall,” I said. “Are you looking for my vote? I’m afraid I’m a Democrat, so you can just drop me off at the next corner.”


He grinned. It was a rather nasty grin, as grins go. “You visited our little lab recently,” he said. “You and your boyfriend.”


Fuck. So, there were video cameras. We should’ve worn disguises, like we’d done before. Now he knows about Todd. “It was simply a little homecoming, Senator. What with the lab being my first home, and all.”


His grin remained. As did the guns. Plural. “So, you know about all that, do you? From your ex, from Craig? That’s why I hired him, you know. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”


I gulped. “You’ve been keeping tabs on me, on us?”
