I looked at him. Todd looked at him. Todd looked at me. “What’s he doing?” he whispered.
“Taking a dump?” I replied with a shrug.
Craig popped open an eye. “I am not taking a dump, Lucas; I’m thinking of a way out of this.”
Todd grinned. “To be fair, it really did look like you were taking a dump.”
Craig popped open another eye. “You two are perfect for each other.”
I smiled. “I like to think so.”
“It wasn’t a compliment,” he replied.
Again, I shrugged. “Oh well. And what did you come up with while you weren’t taking a dump?”
“You have to die, Lucas,” he replied. “You have to die and the senator has to find out that you’re dead. Only then will you be free from him.”
I coughed. I hacked. Tears ran down my face. “Um, yeah. Plan B?”
He patted my back as we made our way to the door. “Don’t worry, Lucas. It probably won’t hurt a bit.”
I grimaced as we exited the room. “You should’ve been a doctor, Craig. Your bedside manner is truly wonderful.”
