When the rain started, he was sitting on the couch, not paying attention to the pointless sitcom on the TV, Roscoe curled up at his side. The loud clack of thunder that rattled the windows made him jump. After a mostly sleepless night and poking around Jimmy’s office, where he discovered an album on the coffee table held cutouts of every article he’d ever written, Matthew failed to notice the storm rolling in. Mainly because he kept dozing off, taking catnaps that lasted a handful of minutes.

Downtime was unusual for him.
