Liam laughed and shook his head. “We can’t take all that. Choose a couple of things and leave the rest on the table. We can put them away when we get home.”
“But, Daddy, I neeeedeverything.”
“Perhaps we can stay here then and you can play with it all in the living room.”
Lucas screwed up his face. He knew he couldn’t win. He put the dinosaur and beach ball on the table. “I won’t have half as much fun now.”
“We’ll only have to stay half as long then. Come on. Open the door for Daddy.”
Liam put sun cream on Lucas, then loaded himself up with the towels, cooler, and beach umbrella. With Lucas’s reluctant help, they lugged everything to the car, and were soon on their way.
By the time they got to the beach, Lucas had forgotten his annoyance with Liam and eagerly helped him unpack the car.
“Put your things in this bag,” said Liam, “and then you can carry it to the beach.”
Lucas was so eager to get onto the beach, he didn’t have time to complain.
