Tinah glared.

“I’m a known member of the Guard,” she said, words leaving her mouth in a snarl but working their way toward calmer tones as she continued. She clearly wanted them not to argue with her. “They willbelieve me. And I’ll be able to tell whether they’re trustworthy or compromised. You’ll just as likely find yourself back in a cell. Since you seem to hate each other, I doubt that’s what you want.”

“Because traveling together is better,” said Akton.

“Queen Ylenia will have to believe you. You’ll be taking the evidence with. You’re less suspicious than I am and can blend into a crowd. I will give you clear directions. You inform her—go to Ylenia herself, speak to no one else, not even her advisors—and then return home. Probably,” she added, as though that would make a difference, “you will be well rewarded. Will you do this?”
