“They’re not dangerous.”

“Sure,” said Akton, dragging him with. Talfryn kept up, then pulled away from Akton’s support. Standing was still difficult, but he could manage now. Akton didn’t seem to mind—he seemed very focused on keeping a moving fighting stance. They wove through the village, Talfryn directing, not sure why the closer they got, the less he knew where he was going. He kept expecting to see someone in the ruins, but he realized why he didn’t when they turned a corner onto a small road at the far edge of town and found a child poking through the rubble.

A child. The shifter wasn’t even an adult.
