Chapter 37

Without warning, she raised a hand. Fire, balled tight but sparking, appeared in her palm. Akton gaped at it, dancing back as she flicked it at him. Talfryn moved faster, though, waving it out of the air with a hand. In an instant, Akton’s irritation transformed to fear and mistrust. He stared at Talfryn, wounded.

“I was trying to tell you,” said Talfryn, but Wren interrupted.

“Deal with your emotional issues later,” she said. “I should not have had to prove anything to you.”

“Akton’s stubborn,” said Talfryn. Wren rolled her eyes and stood. She put a hand in an undamaged pocked and pulled out a fistful of green, which she extended to Akton.

“You’ll need to eat this at some point,” she said, then nodded to Talfryn. “He’ll find you more if needed. It will assist you against Basil. Unfortunately, since I’m too young to deal with him myself, you’ll have to do.” She sighed when Akton didn’t move and shook the plant matter. “Go on, take it.”
