“He needs you. Get your clothes off and put them on my back. Shift and I’ll carry you both together.”

Talfryn eyed her.

“You either let me take you to a healer or you stagger your way down to a long-burned town. Decide.” She shifted and Akton struggled to hang onto his consciousness. If this was the last time he got to see Talfryn, he wanted it to last as long as possible. After a moment, Talfryn began to undress.

When he climbed up into the clothes nest to curl around Akton, he thought he could die happy. Talfryn’s salamander body against him was firm and safe, and Akton nuzzled up against him, shut his eyes.
