“Is still in knots? Not surprising, but all this will be over soon and you’ll have a new life. One you can live without looking over your shoulder all the time.”

“God, I hope so. Okay, let’s eat, or try to.” Carlo hurried out of the room.

Walter watched him go, shaking his head. Not at Carlo but at himself. If things were different would I have pushed him away? Would I have accepted what he seemed to be offering? Or more, would I have done it because Iwanted to or because he needs someone to care about him. Pity fucks are worse than useless because both of us would have known that’s what it was. And how the hell did I get on that line of thinking? A hug, yeah maybe, just to show I understand what he’s going through. Anything more…? He shook his head again and headed to the kitchen.
