Chapter 60

“Gentlemen, let’s leave our cares on this sidewalk and enter the Gauvraux mansion.”

Billy had noticed that August liked to speak as though he was reciting lines from a play. It was kind of funny, but entertaining nonetheless.

Xavier grabbed Billy’s hand and squeezed it. “You look amazing, by the way,” he said, close to his ear. “Every time I see you in that white shirt, my heart stops.”

The compliment made Billy feel invincible. “Why, thank you, sir.”

They walked up to the door and August knocked three times. The anticipation and mystery was starting to get to Billy and he swallowed dryly, glancing over at Xavier’s tense face.

“Come in,” a female voice called out, from somewhere above their heads.

Billy immediately looked up, but couldn’t see anything.

“Oh, it’s open.” Quickly, August pushed on the door and stepped in. “Après vous,” he said, in French. “Bienvenue chez Fabienne.”
