Chapter 59

August laughed, his eyes narrowing. “Oh, come on, Xavier. Get your man and bring him over to my room. You can’t leave this city without meeting Fabienne Gauvraux. She’s spectacular. You won’t spend a dime and have the best time you’ve had so far.”

“Who is this woman?”

“She’s a priestess, a courtesan and a queen.” August opened his hands. “You gotta see the inside of Fabienne’s house. It’ll blow your mind.”

“I don’t know…I have to check with Billy.” But Xavier’s resistance was fading fast. To be inside a real lavish New Orleans house out in the quarter, instead of this cardboard box? It was too tempting. “Give us a few minutes.”

“I’ll give you all the time you need.”

Xavier stepped back inside and shut the door behind him.

Billy stood in the middle of the room, looking at him expectantly. “Well? Should we?”

“You heard him—Toulouse Street. Free booze and food. And more importantly, a chance for me to get a real idea of where we’re heading.”
