Chapter 27

“Hey, Uncle Colt.” Coop laughed. “I knew you’d find them.”

The hero worship shone in his eyes as he talked with his uncle about the rescue mission.

“Yeah, hang on.” He handed the phone to Dean and ran from the bathroom.

“Hey, Colt.” Dean needed to snap out of his funk before it made Colt worry more.

“Hey, what’s wrong? You sound down.”

The man was on a rescue mission, and he was inquiring about Dean. Dean felt a lump form in his throat.

“Yeah, sorry. I was just getting out of the shower. Everything okay?” Dean asked.

“Yeah, the chopper will be here in about five minutes. They want to have someone else drive the machine into town so I can ride on the chopper. I have some minor cuts and bruises. Nothing major, but they also need my expertise to help with Kip. It makes sense, I guess. I’ll hitch a ride from the hospital when we finish up.”

“No!” Dean shouted. “Umm, I mean, it would mean a lot to Coop if we could pick you up. He asked about it, and I think…”
