Chapter 23

“Miss me?” he asked as he barged through the door.

“Always,” Luka said, his voice gravelly and strained.

Heat spread through Jacob as he stared at Luka, and fell over the cliff once and for all. This was the man for him. He knew it in his bones. He shook himself out of his stupor and hurried to the sofa bed. “Give me a few minutes and I’ll have this done. You just sit—” he didn’t see any seating except for the bar stools”—over there.”

Luka smiled, but did as he was told. “I can help, you know.”

“Not on my watch. I’m here to make sure you’re healthy in time for Thanksgiving.”

Luka raised an eyebrow. Jacob crawled across the bed, trying to get the sheet over the corner and sticking his ass in the air. Jacob glanced over his shoulder and caught Luka watching him.

“I was going to ask you to spend Thanksgiving with me—or us. At the shelter. With everyone. The boys. Garrett. Adam. Marcus.”
