“Hello again,” he said, gazing at me across bushels of fresh lavender. He adjusted the bags so he could dip into the sample jar of lavender body butter.

“You think I’m a flake, like where is my lavender lemon curd?” He rubbed the butter between his hands.

“Zero fucks given about lemon curd or flakes,” I replied.

A local woman perusing the lavender lip balms laughed.

“Seriously, bro,” he said.

“Seriously, bro,” I replied. “I’m focused on getting my business back up. I don’t have time for bullshit.”

The snickering woman offered me payment.

“Thank you,” I said.

“Zero fucks given,” she said and laughed again. “I’m glad to see you back at the market, Law,” she added before walking away.

Denny leaned across the table and whispered, “I’ve got the curd.” He smelled of sun and the lavender body butter.

I leaned forward. “And?”

“You will love it.”

If I moved, we would have kissed. “I’m done in an hour. Why don’t you come back and help me shut the stall and try convincing me.”
