By the time I finished loading my truck, I was soaked with sweat and ready to test Denny’s oral prowess.

The museum provided the only public bathroom, aside from a trio of dubious Porta-Potties. The elderly couple propped up at the front counter eyed me.

“Closing soon,” the man grumbled.

The woman nudged his elbow and leaned toward him. “It’s Kenneth’s boy.”

“Kenneth?” The man pointed his finger at me. “I thought he died.” He looked at the woman. “He did die.”

“So sorry to hear of his passing,” she said.

A knife to the heart couldn’t have hurt worse. I quickened my pace. A trio of children rushed past me with their parents in tow, providing the couple with fresh concern.

I pounded up the rickety stairs and arrived breathless and angry at the landing. Either I would pound my dick into Denny’s mouth or smash a window. I understood why my mother had to leave. The unending sympathy would have forced her into a grieving hermit’s life.

I kicked open the bathroom door.
