Chapter 15

“To tell them what? That Tony emailed me to tell me he was back in town, and had seen Jack?”

“Didn’t you say you have a restraining order against him? It should prohibit any contact with you.”

Max nodded. “But from what I know about them, I have to document what he’s done, which I can, and take that to the judge who issued the order. The police will only get involved if he turns up in person and threatens me physically.”

“Making it, as I said when you told me about it, not worth the paper it’s written on. He can attack, and possibly kill you, before the cops get there.”

“Damn, Deacon,” Jack said. “That is notthe way to make Max feel safe.”

“Sorry, but it’s the reality of the situation. What he needs is a bodyguard.”

“He’s already said no to that,” Jack replied sourly.

“Guys, I’m standing right here,” Max said with a tight smile. “Since I spend most of my time at home, because of my work, hiring one would be stupid. He’d go crazy with nothing to do ninety percent of the time.”
