Chapter 13

Nate made to resume the kiss that the appearance of the wolves had interrupted. Both wolves stood up. They didn’t show aggression. They just stood and looked at the two men.

Morgan avoided Nate’s lips and gave him a kiss on the cheek. “We better get back,” he said. “I think I’m on watch tonight.”

“Uh—okay?” Nate replied, clearly puzzled.

Morgan took Nate’s hand and led him back to the path to camp. Morgan looked back and saw the wolves disappear into the trees.

When they got back to camp everyone was sitting by the fire. They were laughing and joking. Morgan and Nate came and sat with the group.

“Where have you guys been?” Jonathon asked.

“Down by the lake,” Nate answered.

“Have a nice walk?” Steele asked.

Nate nodded but looked questioningly at Morgan.

“Yeah, the moon on the water is pretty spectacular,” Morgan said, not looking back at Nate.
