Chapter 20

Morgan bought a mug with an owl in a tree painted on it for his mom, and a sweatshirt with a moose for his dad. Megan was into jewelry, but he couldn’t find anything that seemed to have the quality he was looking for. He asked the clerk if there was anything more authentically First Nation available. The clerk told him there was another gift shop behind the fur traders that would have the kind of thing he was looking for. Morgan told Nate, who was still shopping for his family, where he was going and left the store.

He walked around the corner, past the fur trader’s, and came to a shop with a sign that read: The Ojibwe Wood Carver. He stopped short. To the side of the door stood a life-sized inuksuk. It was a man with both arms outstretched. Once more, Justin’s words came back to him. This one means you’ve reached your destination,he’d said when showing Morgan a similar one in miniature back at Rock Island Lodge.
