Chapter 22

“Is this about the important thing you want to tell me about?”

“Yes. When will you be home?”

“We’ll be home this afternoon. Why don’t you just tell me now, since you’re so anxious about when we’ll be home?” Morgan asked, feeling both exasperated at his sister’s impatience and concerned over what she needed to tell him.

“No. I need to tell you in person. Can you have Nate drop you off at my dorm?”

“He’s not going straight to his parents. He was going to stay all night at our house before he drove home.”

Megan was quiet for a while as if trying to think, then said, “Morgan, this is pretty important. I really need to talk with you—alone.”

Feeling his anxiety increase, he said, “Okay, let me call you back.”

They said goodbye.

“What’s that all about?” Nate asked.

“I still don’t know, but she wants you to drop me off at her dorm. She wants to talk to me alone.”

“Should I wait for you?”
