“One day I was talking to a co-worker of mine, telling him about all this,” his father continued, “and he told me he’d heard from a friend about an agency that could get around regular adoption agencies’ waiting periods. He got me the number from his friend. I called and set up an appointment. I didn’t tell Donna and went by myself as I didn’t want to get your mother’s hopes up. The woman I met with was sympathetic and said she would see what she could do. The only catch was we had to sign a non-disclosure agreement because, as she explained, this all was not exactly legal. Actually we found out later it was a black market adoption.”
