Chapter 53

“And…I’m pretty sure I love you.”

It was one thing to hear a sleeping, possibly dreaming, semi-inebriated man declare his love—quite another to have one who was sober and wide awake, say it in the light of day.

“What?” Morgan asked in surprise.

“I said, I’m pretty sure I love you.”

Morgan shook his head as if to clear it. The conversation was bouncing around so fast he could barely keep up.

“Yes, I heard you. But what does the prophecy scaring you, our having sex, and your loving me have to do with one another?”

“I’ve loved you ever since I can remember. Even when you were gone I still loved you.” James was continuing as if he wanted to get it all out in the open before he lost his nerve.

“Then when you came back. The reality of the prophecy hit me. You’re so into it, so ready to commit to it. I’ve been trying to be as obnoxious as I can to make you not want to go all in on this.”

Morgan stared at James, openmouthed.
