“What if he says I can’t go?”
“I’m not going to ask his permission. I’ll just tell him you’re going with me. I feel it’s the thing to do,” Morgan said firmly.

Two hours later Morgan and James had taken not so separate showers. Morgan had started his alone, but James soon joined him, declaring Morgan probably needed someone to wash his back. They ate breakfast then went to see Robert.
Without a word, Robert had listened to Morgan’s firm insistence that James go with him. When Morgan was done, Robert simply smiled and nodded. “Do as you feel you are being led.”
When the pair were on their way down the forest path to Great Eagle’s lodge, James asked, “Are you nervous?”
“A little. Are you?” Morgan replied.
“A lot! I’ve always been a bit afraid of the old man and now…well, let’s just say I haven’t been the ideal Ojibwe recently.”
