Chapter 15

Mickey got her sneakers back on without her socks and rolled her jeans down. “That was so much fun!” she said. “We’ll have to come back out here after dinner.”

“Okay. That sounds like a good plan.”

We started back toward the car. After about a block, we passed a souvenir shop with T-shirts, ball caps, and other beach toys on display.

“That one’s so cute!” Mickey exclaimed, pointing to a T-shirt with a cartoon of a crab with a sand shovel. It said Rehoboth Beach on it.

“I’ll be right back,” I said as I went into the store. I saw her looking at all the other things in the window. I emerged with two shirts and two ball caps with the same cartoon. I handed her one of each. “There you go. Something to remember today.”

Her eyes lit up. “You didn’t have to. Let me pay for mine,” she protested.

“Nope. This is my treat.”

“Then at least let me carry them,” she said as she took mine and the bag from me.

We turned to continue walking. Finally, we passed a very nice-looking restaurant.
